Duty Breakdown
Projected FTA Savings
$974
once the EU-India FTA enters into force — BCD 0.0% instead of 7.5%, total duty $1,800. Until ratification, the standard rates above apply.
Rates shown are approximate estimates for general guidance only — based on the CBIC tariff schedule and GST 2.0 slabs, last reviewed June 2026. Actual rates depend on your specific HS code classification. FTA rates are projections; the EU-India FTA is not yet in force. Alcoholic beverages attract state excise duties instead of IGST. Consult the CBIC tariff schedule or a licensed customs broker for exact applicable rates.
What to Do Next
How India Import Duties Work
When goods enter India, they're subject to multiple duty components. The primary one is Basic Customs Duty (BCD), which varies by product classification under the HS code system. On top of BCD, a Social Welfare Surcharge of 10% is levied. Finally, Integrated GST (IGST) is applied on the total assessable value (CIF + BCD + SWS).
How the EU-India FTA Will Reduce Your Import Costs
The EU-India Free Trade Agreement was concluded on 27 January 2026 and is pending ratification — until it enters into force, EU-origin goods pay the same MFN rates as any other origin. Once in force, Basic Customs Duty on most goods originating from EU member states will be eliminated or significantly reduced. The savings are substantial, especially for categories like machinery, chemicals, and pharmaceuticals where standard BCD rates are 7.5–15%. This calculator shows both numbers, so you can plan sourcing decisions before the rates go live.
Certificate of Origin: Claiming FTA Rates Once In Force
The EUR.1 Certificate of Origin will be the key document for claiming preferential FTA duty rates. Your European supplier obtains it from their local chamber of commerce before shipping; it accompanies the shipment and is presented to Indian customs. Without it, standard MFN (Most Favoured Nation) duty rates apply — as they do for all shipments until ratification completes.
